the elephants

Lofty witnessed a strange scene in the streets early this morning: elephants marching through the streets at 2am. They were all bound for the circus tents in midtown. Apparently, the trucks which carry these large creatures are too large to fit through the tunnel into midtown Manhattan so they walk the beasts through the tunnel and down 34th street. A lovely sight to behold; along with the zebras, screaming PETA protesters, the total chaos of the sprinting crowd and NYPD's finest looking dumbfoundedly on. Just another boring night in New York.

internet signposts

Dear Reader - you must. we repeat must, watch this crazy video - at least the bit at 3mins and 10 seconds- it could change your life by making you rethink elements of your hygiene regimen you have neglected forever.

Lofty thinks this live action version of the Simpsons opening is pretty nifty as well. In our humble opinion it could have been pulled off a little better, a little truer to the camera work in the original and with somewhat stronger performances (i.e. the music director) but good for the creators for taking the initiative and making a piece with pretty high production value.

Prison Race

Lofty is obsessed with prisions after watching 5 seasons of Oz in less than 3 weeks (is there anything that HBO does lately that isn't totally frickin' awesome?). So on the penitentiary note, here is a great first hand account of a prison experience. Kinda confirms on a micro scale what Jared Diamond in Guns Germs and Steel argues on a macro scale: that success is more a product of our luck of geography than individual merit (cheery huh?). Even if you don't have the time or patience to watch the whole thing, check out the rap at around 25 mins into the clip: high bandwidth low bandwidth.
